The Republic of Somaliland was British Protectorate (1884-1960). Prior to the formalization of The British rule over Somaliland, the government had different treaties with Somaliland clans from 1884. Britain declared its protection of Somaliland on 20th July, 1887 and Somaliland was officially referred as British Somaliland. It was the first Somali-inhabited country in East Africa
The meeting between Ethiopia and Somaliland came days after Somalia and Somaliland announced a breakthrough in talks in Djibouti, committing to further dialogue between their respective capitals. Abdikarim Hussein Guled, Somalia’s special envoy to Somaliland, said the deal constituted a “blatant disregard for international norms” by Ethiopia and undermines progress made between Hargeisa and Mogadishu.
